Thank you for your interest in Monterey Bay Community Power’s service offerings. We are excited to be nearing the second phase of launching our carbon-free electricity service for Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties.
Phase One: All non-residential customers were automatically enrolled in MBCP’s MBchoice service offering beginning March 1, 2018.
Phase Two: All residential customers will be automatically enrolled in MBCP’s MBchoice service offering beginning July 1, 2018.
MBCP procures electricity from carbon-free sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric. In addition to being carbon-free, MBCP does not use power produced from nuclear energy or any fossil-based sources.
As a public, not-for-profit agency, MBCP is committed to returning surplus revenues to our customers and our community. All customers will receive a 3% rebate in 2018 and this rebate is expected to increase to 4% in 2019.
About our service offerings and rebate options: As an MBCP customer, you get to choose where your savings goes. MBchoice and MBprime customers receive their rebate as a credit on their bill. Customers who choose to donate their rebate in support of our community and our planet can choose between MBgreen+ or MBshare, funding the growth of renewable energy resources and projects in our community and supporting low-income rate payers.
Service Offerings:
MBchoice is our standard electric generation offering, automatically available to all customers, with rates that match PG&E’s, and are inclusive of costs related to exit fees charged by PG&E. Customers will realize a cost savings over PG&E’s rates, thanks to a minimum 3% rebate in 2018 for all customers. Rebates will be credited annually for residential customers, bi-annually for small and medium-sized businesses, and quarterly for large businesses.
As with all MBCP service offerings, MBchoice customers are eligible for all MBCP rebate options; keep your rebate and receive it as a credit on your bill, green your rebate by donating it to MBgreen+, or share your rebate by donating it to MBshare. Rebate funds are calculated from the electric generation charge on your bill. In 2018, the MBCP rebate will be 3%.

MBprime allows customers to choose carbon-free electricity generated from sources which are 100% renewable, as defined by California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS); not including small hydroelectric generation. MBprime is available for an added cost of $0.01 per kWh (estimated $3 – $5 monthly bill increase for residential accounts), inclusive of costs related to exit fees charged by PG&E. MBprime customers will still realize a cost savings over PG&E’s rates thanks to a 3% rebate in 2018 for all customers. Rebates will be credited annually for residential customers, bi-annually for small and medium-sized businesses, and quarterly for large businesses.

MBgreen+ allows customers to redirect their rebate to support the procurement, and eventually the development of local renewable resources located within our tri-county region. Rates remain the same as MBchoice.

Share Your Rebate For Local Giving
MBshare allows customers to donate their rebate to fund local non-profit projects that lower greenhouse gas emissions and support low income rate-payers. MBCP staff are in initial discussions with community foundations as possible donor options. Rates remain the same as MBchoice.
